Home for Christmas

So I came home for a couple days for Christmas to visit family. Its been about 7 months since I have been to Lake Erie, (even though they live literally a 5 minute drive away from the lake).

I forgot what it felt like to stand on the edge of the water, to look out across and feel like it goes on forever, the wind hitting my face, and closing my eyes and just listening to the waves crash on the shore.

I think it restored something deep inside me. It felt exactly like home. I think I found my home (besides the one I am building with my soon to be husband). But as an artist, as someone that creates, the lake has always been the constant. It is a place that all my worries leave, I feel lighter, I feel happier.

I hope that one day I will be able to move back or move to a place that is by water.

Forever my inspiration.

Fun in the studio

Well first off I want to say that this first painting is something that I have been working on in the past couple years. new painting, but same idea, forming landscapes from imagination, and before I was working on small pieces of paper not caring about going "big".  (kinda pissed me off people telling me to do things that I didn't want to do at the time, eventually I got over the fear of "going big"...obviously.)

Soooo I decided since I don't have much to do lately, and that this stretcher is a bit too big for the gallery that I am showing at right now, that I would try and see what would happen. WELLLL..... its obviously everything that it SHOULD have been when I was perviously making those pieces.

I was thinking I am kind of grateful that I didn't do this before and that it gave me something to discover on my own, in my own time. Plus I think this will impact my actual studio practice in a way. More ideas how to layer colors and quiet possibly filling the whole canvas instead of just half.

But that will come in due time... (when I get more canvas ;) )

In other news, working on a commission for someone I work with. This is on paper and using watercolors. I am kind of digging it. Hope she does too. but well see where this goes. :)

Just wanted to give you all an update.

Having fun in the studio tonight.

Trying to get back in the studio....

Okay, so i have been so unmotivated these past couple weeks... probably because I've had a horrible cold that has gone away in 3 weeks...

but I'm Okay and still here doing stuff....

but mainly I have been focusing on christmas gifts for family and friends because I am too broke to buy stuff.

*coughs* loans...

But I am hoping that once I kick this colds ass and I get myself mentally situated with the situation of paying my loans I will have some more work.

With these gifts I have been making makes me think about actually picking up a paint brush again and making similar work but adding something to it. Well now I have ideas running through my head and have to give it a try .... I don't want to say anything right now.. and then not succeed and get all your hopes up.

:D something good might be coming! it might take some refining... but well see.

maybe I am starting to feel better.

Inspiration is coming my way!!

Feeling recognized.

Well sometimes when I was in school, I didn't feel like I got recognized a lot. I worked hard and my image changed every year. Visiting artists and students would come around and tell me how they liked my work and wanted to talk about it for a minute (but not for very long unless a meeting was scheduled with me).

But once I got into my spring semester of my senior year, things kind of changed. I really started to understand what I was doing and what it meant.

Still didn't mean I had work hanging in the halls or in the Student shows (no matter how many times I tried getting my work in).

But my BFA work has been popping up everywhere over the schools website.

This kind of makes me feel like something was worth showing. Someone thought that I was on to something. Finding this out makes me feel a little more motivated.

I did have someone at the school film me painting. I keep looking to see if they have ever made a video about the Painting department with the stuff he shot.

I am just happy now, that something good came of my BFA work besides graduating.

Maybe, when I really look back at BFA, it could be because I was the only painter in my graduating class that hung my work as traditional work. Everyone else had sculptures or "rooms" or cut outs, or interactive things. (that was pointed out to me the week of BFAs)

I just wanted to say thanks to the people that are recognizing my work. It makes me feel good.

Here is the website if you wanted to take a gander at my work with other painters that came from the school: http://www.cia.edu/academics/painting  You will find it on the lower right hand side titled Featured Student Work.

:) Thanks!!

Gotta Get Goin'!

Well these are the first paintings in about a month or more that I have started. I haven't had much time lately to be in my studio because of work and life. I had a lot of house guests too and it is my spare room, so I really couldn't work in here. But now I have my studio back and I need to start doing something.

It is kinda hard knowing that school has started, and that I am not going back. Seeing everyone online settling into their new studios is kind of bitter sweet for me. But I have my own space and have completely my own time to do what I want. I don't have any deadlines right now, so basically all I have to do is make sure that I'm staying on track and making work.

One thing that is hard is that I don't have any assignments to get done to keep myself going. when I was in school it was, "I need to get this done by tuesday, and this by thursday" and now its "well...I can get it done when I feel like it."

Maybe everyone feels like this at some point or another. I don't know if its just me or not. Do artists go through periods where they don't make work? They have to.  I can't beat myself up about not working.

But anyways, here is something new that I am working on. I have gotten myself a calendar and going to start marking down mandatory studio hours for myself. Even if it is just to make a post, rewrite my statement, paint, or clean.

Will be posting new paintings soon :)

Mac Worthington Gallery

I started an internship at Mac Worthington Gallery in the Short North in Columbus. So far it is interesting. I get to talk to people that come in, see if they are interested in the work, and get their information.

So far I like it. Also the three works down below are there, for sale!

Its a great place, with great work! If you are in the area, you should take a walk down the short north and visit all the galleries, Mac Worthington Gallery included!

Studio Time

So I started an Etsy com account where everyone can now buy my work!

http://www.etsy.com/shop/HeatherHuebnerArt

And since I only have 5 pieces up for sale, I thought I would start making more smaller pieces in an assembly so more of you can own a little piece of something! :D

I used to work with inks and wanted to go bigger to save money, thats when I started using the acrylics that my work now consists of. But with these smaller works that will be up on Etsy soon will be in inks! :) They are so wonderful when they dry, the pigments separate and more transparent! More layering can happen to get that atmospheric quality to my landscapes.

I hope you all are enjoying my work! Thank you for all the views from all over the world!
